About Me

I am a fully qualified and registered Iyengar yoga teacher and Shiatsu massage therapist.

I began a daily practice of Buddhist meditation when I was about 30. Around the same time I started a 3-year course of shiatsu at Norwich Shiatsu Centre. This changed the way I thought about health and disease. I now know that health is both personal responsibility and life-style choices.

I have been a sportsman all my life, and at one point also was in the bodybuilding arena. This all developed my awareness and understanding of the body that has helped me in the physical aspect of yoga.

I was introduced to Iyengar Yoga around the time I began Shiatsu and fully immersed myself in yoga training with my first teacher, Karunachitta. She was an experienced, good humoured, inquisitive practitioner of 30 years.

After several years of an Iyengar yoga practice I came across Astanga Vinyasa Yoga and became hooked. I went to Mysore India and practiced yoga there. When I returned to the UK I taught and opened an Astanga Yoga studio.

After some years I eventually dropped the Astanga yoga practice. Although I was addicted to the high you get from Astanga yoga, the practice was giving me imbalances and injuries. Even though it was no longer suitable for me it was still hard to let go of that type of practice.

I did the 2-year Iyengar yoga teacher training and qualified in 2004 under Sasha Perryman. I have found Iyengar yoga to be a more mature and complete form of asana and pranayama practise. It is not stressful on the body, and it is really useful in treating disease, misalignment and imbalance of the body as well as a whole host of other things.
